Early Life and Education

Henry Monley will soon have the rare distinction of being born from both a 19th-century bishop and modern princess – an amazing combination for someone just one-and-a-half years old! (Goodspeed Musicals), Mark Twain in Deaf West’s version of Big River as well as Mr Knightley in readings of Working at The Old Globe Theatre as well as appearing national tours for Mamma Mia! and Phantom of the Opera productions respectively.

Playbill recently caught up with them to talk about date nights, travel for work and being working parents on Broadway.

Professional Career

Adam Monley will take the place of Will Swenson when the revival of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Tony Award-winning musical Les Miserables opens August 12 and runs through October 5. Monley takes over for Swenson until their departure October 5.

Monley is an impressive tenor with an expressive and rich voice that fits his character well and sets up their relentless pursuit of their prey. Additionally, they’re supported by an excellent supporting cast.

Monley can currently be seen on Broadway as Mr. Banks in the original cast of Mamma Mia!, on national tour with The Phantom of the Opera (Raoul), as well as Deaf West Theatre Company’s Big River production (Mark Twain/Voice of Huck). Regional credits include Mr. Knightley in Working and Emma at The Old Globe; Curly from Oklahoma! at Paper Mill Playhouse and Romeo/Bernadette/Oklahoma! (Paper Mill), as well as Henrik in A Little Night Music at North Shore Musical Theatre (North Shore Musical Theatre).

Achievement and Honors

Awardee of the Los Angeles Ovation, Dramalogue and Garland Awards as well as winning a 1999 Career Achievement Award from Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.

Earl Carpenter will take over some performances of Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Tony Award winning musical Les Miserables through January 2016. Prior to Earl Carpenter, Hayden Tee and Will Swenson have previously held this role.

Personal Life

Monley and Paige Faure, who share one-and-a-half year-old Henry, have become one of Broadway’s newest celebrity families. Henry will have plenty of practice traveling this fall when his mom departs to lead Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on national tour, while he begins performing Javert in Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Tony Award-winning musical Les Miserables by Cameron Mackintosh.

Nick Arnstein in Funny Girl; Lord Goring in An Ideal Husband and Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest are among his Off Broadway credits, while regional credits include David in Company, Carl in Bus Stop and Zoser in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida are among his regional roles. Additionally he played Raoul on Mamma Mia!’s National Tour as well as Mark Twain for Deaf West Production of Big River.
