The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer

Michael Alan Singer is a former software developer who is now a New York Times bestselling author. His book, The Untethered Soul, is considered a spiritual classic. It was featured on the Super Soul Sunday television show hosted by Oprah Winfrey.

This acclaimed book is a thought-provoking, true story about the connection between the external success of a person’s life and the inner peace that is available to all. Through the lens of his own life, Singer demonstrates how a successful external life can actually be a doorway to the deeper, more profound meaning of life.

As a young man, Singer began studying meditation and yoga. His father was a stockbroker. He eventually went into seclusion to practice his spirituality. While living in a wooden house on the grounds of a temple in the woods, he was able to experience a profound inner awakening.

After spending more than a decade in a secluded place, he returned to a normal life. He married and had a child. But his marriage ended in divorce two years later.

In the years after his divorce, he lived a more spiritual life. In a small room at the temple of the universe, he met another woman named Donna. She later became his second wife.

For a time, Singer continued to work on his thesis. When he graduated from the University of Florida with a master’s degree in economics, the UF’s economics department declined to award him a doctorate. However, the late UF’s chairman wrote an introduction to his book.

After Singer’s divorce, he moved on to another career. His first job was as a self-taught computer programmer. Later, he founded a construction company called Built with Love, and he also started teaching spirituality at San Francisco State University. During this time, he was also tutoring his fellow doctoral candidate, Alan Robertson.

Michael Singer was born in 1947 in New Rochelle, NY. He is the son of a Jewish family. His father was a stockbroker, and his mother was an actress. During his childhood, he spent a lot of time in the woods.

At age 22, he had a spiritual awakening. At that time, he became fascinated with the early TRS model computer. That led him to write an accounting program for his construction company.

In the following decades, he developed a strong interest in yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices. Eventually, he formed a meditation group and built a cedar temple. Eventually, the house became a small commune. A few people stayed in the house while others rented rooms, ate vegetarian meals, and abstained from alcohol.

In the past twenty years, Singer has become one of the most influential spiritual authors in the United States. His books are published in several languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Brazil, Turkey, Poland, and India. Currently, his book is in its 16th printing.
