Ben Platt Returns to the Stage After a Season of Spring Awakening
Ben Platt is back on the New York stage. He is starring in a new revival of “Parade” at the New York City Center. Parade will have a limited run through November 6. The Broadway production of the 1998 musical will feature a host of famous names.
Parade tells the story of the lynching of a Jewish businessman, Leo Frank, in Georgia during the early 20th century. Ben Platt will play the role of Leo Frank. Other actors in the cast include Micaela Diamond, Gaten Matarazzo, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson. This show is directed by Tony-nominated director Michael Arden, who previously helmed the acclaimed revival of Spring Awakening.
Benjamin Platt is also known for his work in the film adaptation of the musical Dear Evan Hansen. He earned acclaim for his performance in the musical. In addition, he was awarded the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Besides starring in the film and the musical, Ben Platt recently completed a multi-city Reverie Tour.
He has also appeared in the TV series Pitch Perfect and the film version of Will & Grace. He has worked with Hugh Jackman and Josh Groban. His latest film is the comedy-drama “The Politician,” which is also a collaboration with David Arquette.
Ben Platt will also be seen in the Broadway revival of “Parade” this season. He will reprise his role as Leo Frank and co-star as the character’s wife Lucille. Although this new production will be a fictionalized retelling of the trial, it will still incorporate real-life photographs of the event.
The musical will also feature a number of talented performers, including Noah Galvin, David Patrick Kelly, Anthony Ramos, Ashley Park, and Molly Gordon. Additionally, the show will feature a score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.
When Ben Platt was 11, he played Jean Valjean in Kidz Theater’s production of Les Misérables. However, at the age of 17 he was already working with Columbia University’s Hair and Kidz Theater’s production of The Music Man. As a child actor, Ben starred in the Broadway production of Caroline, or Change, a Broadway musical based on the novel by Jeanine Tesori.
Ben Platt is known for his performances in the musicals “Pitch Perfect” and “Dear Evan Hansen.” Since then, he has gone on to appear in the films Run This Town and Ricki and the Flash. He has also taken a leading role in the television series “The Politician,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Also, he has worked on the film The People We Hate at the Wedding.
Benjamin Platt is an accomplished singer-songwriter. He has released a critically acclaimed album and performed at the U.S. Open in 2019 with a single titled “I Want You to Know.” One of his musicals, “The People We Hate at the Wedding,” will be released in May 2020.
“Theater Camp,” a musical based on a short film by the same name, will also be appearing on Broadway in the spring. Ben Platt will star in the production, along with Will Ferrell.
