Bobby Daniels met life’s challenges with whatever approach was most suitable at any given time, whether that was self-reliance, resignation or accepting fate grudgingly. These skills served him well both inside and outside of Duluth’s black community.
Family members allege Daniels saw his son approaching with the gun and attempted to grab it away – that is when police opened fire twice, shooting Daniels twice.
Early Life and Education
Bobby Daniels hails from a small country town with strong family values. He was taught how to be gentlemanly and take care of others. Although he has already experienced love twice before, Bobby hopes this time he finds the one.
He graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1960 and then continued his education at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Additionally, he officiated local sports events.
Fighting both in and outside the boxing ring, he eventually retired as Minnesota’s light heavyweight champion and is honored by membership into the Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame. A kind and considerate individual, he cared deeply about both animals and people alike and was known for being exceptionally dedicated to his family.
Professional Career
Bobby Daniels worked as a construction manager in the telecom industry. He oversaw the installation of fiber networks and cell tower structures as well as their repair and maintenance, in addition to holding an OSHA 30 Hour Qualified Signal Person certification from the US Department of Labor. Bobby Daniels was an adept climber with many certifications under his belt such as Qualified Signal Person-OSHA 30 Hour certification from US DOL.
He was an outstanding husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by his wife Sharon Barber; sons Robert Daniels III and Aaron Daniels Sr; daughter Raguel Brown; relatives, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Daniels competed at both light heavyweight and cruiserweight in his fighting career, starting his professional career in 1984 and winning the WBA cruiserweight title after defeating an exhausted Dwight Muhammad Qawi in France 15 months later. Daniels then successfully defended it twice before losing it to Bobby Czyz.
Achievement and Honors
Bobby Daniels is an esteemed coach renowned for his hard-nosed approach to hockey. Under his guidance, Ferris State won its inaugural regular season championship and reached its inaugural Frozen Four; earning CCHA Coach of the Year honors along the way.
Daniels has also been named a finalist for the Vincent Draddy Award, an accolade given annually to college football coaches who exhibit exceptional work. This prize includes a $25,000 scholarship that will be presented during December’s NFF awards dinner.
Daniels is a proud family man with five children – Dezirae, Melissa, Brandy, Timmy and Billy – whom he is dedicated to supporting as deacons, Sunday school superintendents or teachers at various churches.
Personal Life
His family remembers him fondly as someone who fought successfully both inside and outside of the prize ring, especially with regard to politics. This talent served him well both arenas.
He served in the U.S. Congress from 1972 to 1983, representing Virginia’s 1st district and serving on numerous subcommittees such as Armed Services Committee of House.
He is married, has two children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that he considers family. With expertise in Presenting, Radio, TV and VoiceOver work – and having become more prominent since 2015 with projects under way; his family are immensely proud of him!
