Early Life and Education
Oliver was born and raised in New Orleans and initially worked as a butler for various white families. By age 17, Oliver joined a children’s brass band and started performing trombone and cornet at funerals and parades as well as nightclubs in Storyville – New Orleans’ lively red light district of musical life.
Jamie Oliver has made Los Angeles schools his main target on his TV show, Jamie’s Food Revolution. He portrays himself as an active advocate for healthier school meals that has met resistance from dinner ladies.
