Early Life and Education

Dan Moretti hails from Providence, Rhode Island where he began playing saxophone at age 12. Eventually graduating with his Bachelor of Music from Union Institute and University, Dan has taught jazz as well as music education in public and private school systems throughout Rhode Island.

Celebrate Sounds recording studio in Pawtucket was where he honing his engineering, producing, composing and performing skills were fine-tuned; and his performances and seminars have taken place throughout North America, Europe and Africa.

Moretti currently teaches Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he has won multiple awards including Berklee’s Curriculum Development Award for Groove Writing course and book. Moretti has also been featured as an artist in film projects.

Dan has successfully represented clients in high-stakes construction, environmental and employment litigations. His hallmark skill lies in finding creative solutions with both parties that reduce litigation costs.

Moretti serves as an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston and specializes in Contemporary Writing and Production. As a leader, he has released 17 world albums and appeared on a variety of American jazz charts.

He recently published an article in the New York Times regarding the growing gap between places with good jobs and those without. His research is helping move discussion in favor of place-based policies, which target entire communities for assistance rather than individual families.

Personal Life

Daniel Moretti is a composer, producer and educator renowned for his performances throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Additionally he serves as full time professor in Berklee College of Music’s Contemporary Writing and Production department where his Arranging Contemporary Styles course won him an Award of Curriculum Development in 2006.

As well as his musical pursuits, he has also dedicated time and talent to film as an agent of social change as director of distribution and education programs for LGBTQ films at Frameline. Additionally, he managed a national screening and community engagement program at Independent Lens on PBS before supporting film-based impact campaigns at Active Voice.

He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians and past president of its Long Beach Chapter. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his daughter, traveling and engaging in various forms of artistic practice.
