Daniel Cruise is the Partner and Co-Founder of Lium Research, an independent market intelligence firm serving institutional investors. At Lium Research he conducts holistic energy market research on solar, wind, shale services and power.

His career included work at Coras Research and Wells Fargo Securities before serving in the White House as spokesperson and policy advisor.

Early Life and Education

Tom Cruise Mapother IV would likely answer in the affirmative if asked whether as a 14-year-old Franciscan seminary student he ever dreamed of becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after movie stars. After making his acting debut with an appearance in Endless Love at 19 years old, Cruise became one of Hollywood’s hottest property.

In 1983, he made his breakthrough after appearing as Billy in Taps and then going on to star in Top Gun the same year. Critics widely lauded his performance in Top Gun which garnered several awards and nominations; since then, he has gone on to star in other blockbuster movies performing stunts himself; these included Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, Knight and Day among many more.

Daniel Cruise is a partner at New York-based strategic advisory firm Stonebridge and oversees client engagement efforts in the financial services sector. With an array of experience spanning public affairs, international development and the arts he brings a broad perspective to his position at Stonebridge.

He has held leadership positions at companies including LYCEE FRANCAIS DE NEW YORK and Arconic. Additionally, he holds both a BA in International Relations from Brown University and an MPhil from Cambridge.

He brings more than 15 years of energy finance experience, including buyside and sellside equity analyst roles at Jefferies, Coras Research, Evercore-ISI, Wells Fargo Securities before founding Coras Research in 2005. Subsequently he co-founded Lium Research in 2020 to deliver independent market intelligence on solar, wind, power and shale services; using an approach which blends data synthesis with human experience and field observations for flexible research products.

Achievement and Honors

Dan was known for his sense of humor, courage, dignity and integrity – qualities which uplifted all those he encountered. He loved nature and adventure and completed numerous RAGBRAI rides and canoe trips with family and friends.

Daniel was drawn to music through keyboards, guitar, bass and singing; as an accomplished leader and arranger he founded Kilauea (contemporary jazz group) in 1990; their album Floating Into the Night reached number 74 on Billboard’s jazz charts.

He also appeared as James Cole in the 1990 film adaptation of David Lynch’s cult classic Twin Peaks (1990) as part of an ensemble cast, performing three songs from its soundtrack alongside composer Angelo Badalamenti for whom he received a Grammy Award nomination; critically and commercially successful, the film garnered him both Golden Globe Award and BAFTA nominations.

Personal Life

Daniel Cruise is an accomplished musician and singer. He specializes in piano, electric guitar, ukulele, drums and is an endorser of YAMAHA instruments – playing their MXR-100 pedal board as well as Shubb capos and Romero Creations ukuleles.

In 1999, Cruise made his film debut alongside Nicole Kidman in Stanley Kubrick’s erotic drama Eyes Wide Shut and earned critical acclaim. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian wrote, “Cruise exudes all of the chaotic energy associated with an injured animal – he’s absolutely devastating!”

In 1989, Cruise released his debut album Floating Into the Night, which combined jazz and dream pop with music composed by Alan Badalamenti. It quickly became a cult favorite, and an instrumental version of its title track appeared in David Lynch’s beloved television series Twin Peaks.
