Daniel Esh, a Pulitzer Prize-Winning Puppy Breeder
Daniel Esh of Lancaster County puppy breeding fame was sentenced to 30 days in jail for failing to provide adequate veterinary care, and barred from owning dogs by a judge. Additionally, Esh pleaded guilty to operating his kennel without proper licensing.
On June 4, Pennsylvania SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement team made an official visit to Ronks in Leacock Township and removed 13 dogs suffering from matted fur, ear infections, overgrown nails, conjunctivitis and severe dental disease.
Early Life and Education
Daniel was an esteemed teacher and mentor who inspired students, research fellows, and colleagues alike. An internationally acclaimed leader in his field, Daniel served on multiple journal editorial boards.
He served on numerous national and international committees dedicated to monitoring data monitoring, scientific, grant awarding and grant awarding in clinical trials as a member. Furthermore, he served as visiting professor in multiple locations around the globe.
In 2021, the PSPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement team visited an Esh property in Ronks, Leacock Township and removed 13 animals that were suffering from severe matting, ear infections, overgrown nails, conjunctivitis and serious dental disease. All 13 dogs were then brought back to its Philadelphia headquarters and placed into adoptive homes or rescue organizations for treatment and placement.
Professional Career
He holds both Bachelor’s in Chemistry and Master’s degrees in Industrial Hygiene, with over 30 years of experience as both technician and professional in laboratory analysis, loss control, environmental safety and health (ESH) at Los Alamos National Laboratory where he develops procedures and guidance documents related to exposure risk assessments; silica indoor air quality; occupational noise evaluations, oxygen deficiency hazards pressure safety respiratory protection etc. He has written several easy-to-understand texts for professionals preparing to take certification exams.
He is a licensed attorney with extensive knowledge of federal and state Environmental, Safety, and Health laws as well as experience working with relevant regulatory authorities. Additionally, he boasts an impressive success record when handling complex ESH legal matters with high profile organizations.

Dan is an apprentice site supervisor of Level 4, currently working as assistant site manager on Pemberton Road – an affordable family housing development for WDH and Leeds Federated Housing Association procured through EN:Procure in Castleford. Recently awarded Best Practice in Community by LABC Yorkshire & Humber.
Personal Life
Daniel Ash has worked closely with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails throughout his career. Both artists have applauded each other’s innovative approaches to music creation; Ash specializes in baritone singing which lies between tenor and bass ranges.
On June 4th, an inspection by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals resulted in 13 dogs’ removal due to matted fur and untreated medical issues. At his appearance in district court on that same day, Esh pleaded guilty to one summary charge of animal cruelty and is now prohibited from owning or possessing animals.
Jacob Esh of Honey Brook, Elmer of Gordonville and Daniel of Ronks; their children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and step-brothers and stepsisters survive them.
