Daniel Sabo – A Seattle Seahawks Alumnus

Dan was passionate about Seattle sports and was an enthusiastic season ticket holder of the Seahawks. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed – from providing groceries or driving someone else to doctor appointments, or just simply being someone they could talk to when feeling upset or stressed out.

Dan Sabo is the Director of Food & Beverage at The Hollywood Roosevelt and is responsible for redesigning 25 Degrees Burger Joint as well as reinvigorating Library Bar into a tailored cocktail and whiskey bar.

Early Life and Education

Daniel Sabo earned a BA from Bellevue Senior High School and went on to graduate from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Commercial Loans in 1977. Since that time he has been employed at Union Bank/Croghan Colonial Bank as Vice President for Commercial Loans. Daniel and MariLyn Sabo have two children: Brittany and Trevor as well as 9 nieces/nephews/aunts and uncles that live nearby.

He has worked to secure funding for transportation projects, particularly pedestrian and bicycle funding. For his efforts, the Midtown Greenway bridge in Minneapolis was named in his honor. A member of Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party as well as City Council in Seattle where his family reside. Lastly he belongs to Sonrise Church.

Professional Career

Sabo excelled at three positions – quarterback, running back and safety – during his senior season at Detroit Catholic Central High School, leading his team to win Division 1 state title and being recognized as first team All-Catholic league player.

Sabo reimagined The Hollywood Roosevelt’s culinary and beverage offerings during his time there, including revamping 25 Degrees Burger Bar, creating new in-room dining menus, and revitalizing Library Bar.

After serving in the Minnesota House for one term, Daniel Sabo accepted an appointment to represent Minnesota and St Paul’s fifth congressional district – including Minneapolis and St Paul – until his passing away in March 2016. As well as his military service, he also spent considerable time working law enforcement – serving on the board of both Minnesota Sheriff’s Association and National Sheriff’s Association membership associations.

Dan was an exceptional gentleman and enjoyed spending time with his family. His generosity extended from picking up groceries to driving people to doctor appointments – something his friends and family will surely miss him for. He will surely be missed.

As one of his greatest accomplishments, he saw to it that the Midtown Greenway bridge in Minneapolis was named in his honor and worked to secure funding for transportation projects, especially pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure projects. Additionally, he co-chaired the National Transportation Policy Project of Bipartisan Policy Center.

Dan’s infectious smile and jokes will be missed by many. He was an amazing father to Rosemarie and Rose, as well as being an affectionate uncle and brother for Rose and his nieces and nephews. According to MyHeritage DNA test takers 62 MyHeritage DNA users are direct descendants of Daniel Sabo.
