Daniel Steedman was born on 31 January 2000 in Glasgow, Scotland and currently plays for Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship. Prior to that he studied soccer at University of Virginia where he earned a spot on their All-Freshman Team after starting six games and scoring two goals during 2018.

Early Life and Education
Daniel Steedman hails from Glasgow, Scotland and participated in two years of soccer at the University of Virginia from 2018 – 2019. In 2019, he scored 13 points (3 goals and 7 assists). Additionally, he was honored as part of ACC All-Freshman Team.
Steedman was selected 28th overall in the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Austin FC but did not sign an amateur contract, maintaining NCAA eligibility. Later he signed for Atlanta United 2 and maintained his amateur status.
He is married to Marian Steedman; has three children named Carson Vasser, Allison L. Appel and Emily S. Fehrenbacher; seven grandchildren namely Carson Vasser, Zachary Vasser Logan Steedman Kelsie Appel as well as two brothers Lloyd Matthew and Lynn Matthew. In addition to that he also has one stepdaughter called Susie Love as well as being a member of Franklin First United Methodist Church in Tennessee.
Professional Career
Early this year, he was selected 28th overall in the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Austin FC but did not sign with them. Additionally, he played on Virginia’s NCAA College Cup team which made it all the way to its final before losing out against Georgetown.
Joe Bell, Daryl Dike and Steedman will forgoing their remaining two seasons of college eligibility to pursue professional careers. Dike is projected to be selected first at Thursday’s Major League Soccer SuperDraft and could potentially sign with Viking FK, an established Norwegian club.
In 2019, he led the Hoos with seven assists and scored three goals – two game winners! On January 8, 2020, he signed an amateur contract with Charlotte Independence of USL Championship to preserve his NCAA eligibility.
Achievement and Honors
Daniel Steedman, 15, who died after getting into difficulties while swimming at Humbie Quarry near Kirkliston near Edinburgh has been remembered by his family as being “extremely family-oriented” and loved life to its fullest extent. They say he had an “outgoing personality”, who appreciated living life to its fullest.
The collection primarily contains manuscripts for his novels, short stories, and other writings as well as extensive literary and personal correspondence from both literary publishers as well as personal contacts he made while at university teaching writing courses. Furthermore, there are materials related to his career as an author and writing professor that form part of this collection.
As a freshman at Virginia, he earned recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team after making fifteen appearances and scoring two goals – and was an instrumental force in Virginia’s run to the 2019 NCAA College Cup Final where they lost to Georgetown on penalties.
Personal Life
Daniel Steedman was remembered fondly by family and friends following his tragic drowning at a quarry near West Lothian home. Mary Lane, known for selling lollipop candy as part of her job as a lollipop lady, remembered him with great fondness: ‘Daniel was popular and kind; always laughing when around others and always happy to see new people around him. He had many good qualities that will always remain with us.”
Steedman was instrumental in Virginia’s run through the NCAA Tournament and to a second-place finish against Georgetown in the College Cup Final. This sophomore midfielder earned first team All-ACC honors as a freshman, followed by second team honors as a sophomore.
