David Appelgren is a 7-1, 230-pound Center (BK) from Stockholm, Sweden who played for Wofford College during the 2018-2019 season.

David averaged 9.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game throughout his college career, shooting 48.7% from the floor and 50% from three-point range. Furthermore, he tied a career high in blocks in an NCAA game.

Early Life and Education

David appelgren is an inspiring educator who believes in building strong connections between schools and communities. As director of the Eagle Academy for Young Men, he strives to provide educational opportunities that enable young men of color to reach their highest potentials.

He contributes to the field of education by researching the causes of achievement gaps between black, Hispanic and white students. Drawing upon evidence from developmental neuroscience, he is exploring how children learn motor and attention skills before entering school; how these early processes impact cognitive skills as well as executive function formation. Furthermore, his research examines social-emotional learning (SEL) that occurs during early experiences in care with teachers, parents and peers.

Professional Career

David appelgren, a seven-footer from Stockholm, Sweden, was an impressive force on both ends for Laramie County Community College last season. He led his team in rebounds and points while also averaging career high assists, steals and blocks. This Wofford graduate transfer is just the latest among a long list of Wofford grad transfers who have already drawn interest from USC Upstate, Florida Gulf Coast, Appalachian State and College of Charleston.

Wofford University needs a well-rounded player who won’t hesitate to get in the crease, and he provides that necessary boost of size and athleticism. As they enter their newest phase of development, Wofford will need all weapons at their disposal in order to compete with the best in their conference.

Achievement and Honors

David appelgren, a 7-1 center from Stockholm, Sweden, was an integral member of the Wofford basketball team this season, averaging 9.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He’s twice been named All-Conference by his alma mater as well as being recognized by MaxPreps, Proehlific Park Phenom Jamboree, Associated Press, MaxPreps and Proehlific Park Phenom Jamboree among others. During high school career David helped lead his team to victory at the Swedish Championship and earned both all-state honorable mention and MaxPreps All-American honorable mention. Now studying Economics at Wofford University; David will join the Class of 2020 upon graduation.

Personal Life

David Appelgren is an accomplished sports player best-known for his years at Wofford College. He’s also an artist and philanthropist, co-founding AWAKE MEDIA FELLOWSHIP which produces films for indigenous youth with prominent filmmakers Doug Good Feather, Myron Dewey, Stephanie Cassidy and others. One of David’s greatest contributions was producing, co-directing and co-writing AWAKE – A DREAM FROM STANDING ROCK which premiered on Earth Day 2016, toured across America before finally being available on Netflix. As part of the Wofford College family, David looks forward to continuing to grow as a figure within basketball while enjoying its many facets.
