David Lanning – The Man Behind The Georgia Bulldogs Defensive Line

Lanning’s tenure at Georgia saw him leading one of college football’s premier defensive units. For three consecutive seasons, their Bulldogs finished among the top 10 in yards allowed.

Lanning, a Missouri native, played football at Division II William Jewell in Liberty before coaching at a high school outside Kansas City and spending one year playing FCS Sam Houston State.

Early Life and Education

David Lanning was born in Concord, North Carolina to parents who were both doctors. They moved to Seminole, Florida in 1967 and David spent most of his teen years there.

David earned his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine and currently practices pediatric surgery in Richmond, VA. Additionally, he invented several innovative biomass processing technologies which have been awarded 10 patents so far. It’s been a long journey but David has come out unscathed; one of the most rewarding parts of this career has been getting to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Professional Career

Dave Lanning dedicated his professional career to coaching baseball at Fairport High School for over three decades and was inducted into the Frontier Field Hall of Fame.

He made a significant impact in Section V by coaching both Little League and American Legion teams, leading them to seven section titles and one state championship.

He is a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE). As lead inventor for Forest Concepts, he has created key biomass processing technologies that have earned him 10 patents.

Achievements and Honors

David Lanning’s most remarkable achievement is his appointment to the faculty at the University of Oregon, where he spearheaded its most successful recruiting campaign ever – an accomplishment which has not been replicated since.

He serves as de facto academic vice president and director of the newly created Center for Health and Innovation, which has earned a well-deserved reputation as an institution of distinction.

David Lanning is not only the coach of the best team in the Pac-12 but a successful research initiative as well. He’s an active participant in his community as well, attending sports events regularly, playing golf at his local club and even taking in some entertainment at times.

Personal Life

Growing up, Lanning lived at 913 Elizabeth Street – a house constructed out of land belonging to his grandparents that served as their meeting spot. Here, Lanning made friends, roommates and teammates from all walks of life.

He was raised with parents who instilled in him the drive and determination to pursue his goals. He listened attentively and trusted their guidance; this ultimately led to a high school football career that eventually led to an assistant job at a school outside Kansas City.

He served as an assistant coach at Pitt for one year, before moving on to Arizona State as a graduate assistant. A year after that he was hired as defensive coordinator at Georgia. Now he serves as Head Coach at Oregon.

David Lanning is believed to have a net worth of $8 million, which he earned through his career as a college football coach.

At present, he serves as defensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs. After coaching football for nearly two decades, he has amassed an impressive net worth over that time.

He is also proud father to three beautiful sons: Caden, Kniles and Titan.

His wife Sauphia is an accomplished singer and writer as well. Together they have three boys, with whom they share a close bond as parents and siblings.

Bryan Lanning was born on January 20th, 1990 in San Diego, California and later attended Boise State University. While studying there, he released singles such as “Who Knew” and “This is Home.” Additionally, he released an extended play titled “Like a Lion.”
