David Shingler is a painter residing in Raleigh, North Carolina who graduated with his BFA from Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007.
He finds inspiration in dramatic western landscapes and the mystique of wild landscapes, creating oil paintings with depth and movement.

Schindler was an avid reader and leader in both Campus Activity Board and Math Club while serving on the Office of Residential Life staff.
As soon as the Nazis began moving Krakow’s Jews to Plaszow, he was there to assist. Utilizing lists compiled for them by him, he managed to save many lives.
As a presidential fellow at Chapman University, he specializes in international criminal law and Holocaust studies.
He is the author of various books and articles.
David’s life of meticulous and pioneering research for the public good has resulted in a paradigm shift regarding Boreal Forest region stewardship and contributed to changes in ecological management policy in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Additionally, David continues to champion for protecting land and waters within this unique region of Canada and Europe.

A pioneer of Empire’s school achievement programs, he has helped revolutionize traditional classroom environments by leading them in reshaping them and making significant impacts for students of color and underserved populations alike. Recently he earned recognition as an EYA nominee by demonstrating excellent performance implementing schoolwide data-driven instructional approaches; additionally he is an award-winning artist with over 30 exhibits to his name.
One of the greatest pleasures of being at The Citadel was witnessing many amazing moments as an observer. One such memorable event was seeing winning a cappella group perform at its valedictory ceremony, as they earned praise and admiration from all cadets alike.
Personal Life
David Shingler is an expert in water and ecology. He works on innovative research projects that investigate how Canadian lakes have changed over time.
As a professor at the University of Alberta, he mentors graduate students and encourages them to adopt an interdisciplinary approach in their work. He strives to stimulate their creativity as well as consider all aspects of environmental science such as economic, philosophical, social and political aspects.
Mr Shingler was found dead in his car with a bottle of poison in his possession; its use made a postmortem unnecessary and it is thought he may have killed himself.
