Disneyland
During the weeklong Chinese New Year celebration, Disney California Adventure park in particular, guests are treated to the best of Asian cuisine, kung fu demonstrations and the biggest and best Chinese New Year parade in the biz. The big three are the Chinese New Year Procession, Chinese New Year Party and Chinese New Year Parade. In the spirit of the season, the park has rolled out a new “Lunar New Year” Collection of gifts, souvenirs and trinkets. Featuring the biggest collection of themed gifts in the Disney Parks, guests can select from the latest Disney Parks t-shirts, swagbags and collectibles. This season is especially noteworthy since the park is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Guests are encouraged to dress up and take home one of the many themed party swag bags, emblazoned with the park’s signature red and gold stars. Aside from the park’s annual festivities, guests can also partake in the park’s nightly fireworks show, slated to happen in the late hours of the night.
Restaurants
During the Chinese New Year, guests can expect a bit of everything from live entertainment to acrobats and food. Although the holiday is still relatively new, it has become a popular time to travel to the Land of the Rising Sun. In fact, there are more than a few restaurants that offer a bit of a celebration.
Panda Express used to hand out traditional red envelopes during the holidays, but has since revamped its entire celebration. The restaurant has also introduced a series of special menu items to honor the occasion. The most notable of these is the lucky dragon, which is a Chinese take on the traditional chicken and crawfish dish.
The Chinese New Year also signals the beginning of the traditional Lunar New Year festival. In addition to the usual parades, booths, and parades, visitors can find plenty of unique merchandise to commemorate the occasion. Most merchandise is limited edition, which means it will likely sell out quickly.
Festival Marketplaces
During the Chinese New Year, Disneyland’s California Adventure celebrates the Asian culture with special food, entertainment, and merchandise. From January 20 through February 15, 2023, guests will have the opportunity to experience the Lunar New Year Festival. This multi-day celebration will include beautiful music, exquisite Asian cuisine, and multi-cultural entertainment. It will also include custom-drawn mementos, spectacular musical performances, and exquisite decor.
Disneyland’s Culinary Director, Chef Jeremiah Balogh, has created a special menu that includes over 30 special items. Some of the menu items include a Lunar New Year T-shirt, plushies, and pins. Some of the items are available in auspicious colors, such as red, gold, and silver. These items are available for purchase at the Festival Gifts area.
There are four Festival Marketplaces that offer Asian dishes with a Disney twist. Each food booth offers non-alcoholic items for purchase. The festival also offers face painting, arts and crafts for kids, and live performances from Asian cultures.
Mickey and Minnie merchandise
During the Lunar New Year celebrations at Disney California Adventure, you can find new merchandise highlighting Mickey and Minnie. This year, you can find items inspired by Chinese culture, including spirit jerseys, mystery blind box pin sets, and more. The new merchandise will be available for purchase in select retail locations.
The Disney California Adventure merchandise booth has just opened in the area near the Little Mermaid attraction. The merchandise booth is designed to showcase a variety of new items and special merchandise.
A Lunar New Year Tumbler with Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale is available. The tumbler has a colorful design with Chinese icons and images. It also features a red tassel along the side.
A Spirit Jersey with Chip and Dale in tiger outfits and the words “Celebrating the Year of the Tiger” is also available. This is one of Disney’s most eye-catching seasonal designs.
The Disney California Adventure merchandise booth also has a selection of Lunar New Year Minnie Ear Headbands. This is an excellent souvenir for celebrating the Lunar New Year.
