Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or a novice, Palmetto Bluff has a wealth of sporting activities to offer. Located in the South Carolina Lowcountry, the 20,000-acre development has a diverse landscape and offers amenities for all types of outdoor enthusiasts. Guests can take advantage of more than 22 miles of jogging and biking trails. They can also enjoy water sports on the May River. The community has an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and a 173-acre horse farm.
The Conservancy, a non-profit organization, is committed to protecting Palmetto Bluff’s natural environment and rich history. This includes conducting research and education initiatives, as well as archaeological and biological studies. The Conservancy also hosts 300 field trips and lectures each year. The Conservancy’s History Center displays artifacts dating back over 12,000 years. This includes antebellum artifacts from the Pettigrew Plantation. The Conservancy also works to protect winding tidal creeks and lush maritime forests. They also conduct “citizen science” bluebird surveys.
The Conservancy has a full-time archeologist on staff to educate the public about Palmetto Bluff’s unique history. The Archaeologist will provide a historical overview of the community, including the Wilson Family and unique sites around the Village Green. He or she will also discuss the conservation efforts undertaken by the Conservancy to preserve Palmetto Bluff’s natural habitat.
The Conservancy hosts a number of events to educate people about the rich history of the area. Visitors can attend “From the Field” Lunch with Executive Chef Orchid Paulmeier, a five-course dinner featuring “Bourbon & Birds,” and an opportunity to see professional fox hunters in action. There will also be a demonstration of the various horn blows used during a hunt, as well as a lecture on the history of fox hunting.
The Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club is a full-service shooting facility with 13 sporting clays stations and a covered 5-stand station. The club also offers a shooting school for women. In addition to the shooting facilities, the club maintains two pristine croquet lawns and a 40-acre hardwood bottom.
Palmetto Bluff also boasts a variety of sports facilities, including eight Har-Tru tennis courts, a four-lane bowling alley, six pickleball courts, a fitness center, and a state-of-the-art movement studio. The resort also features two heated horizon lap pools overlooking the scenic May River. In addition to these facilities, the resort has a full-service day spa. The spa offers a hair salon, facials, body treatments, and whirlpools.

The hotel has several fitness centers, a hair salon, and a movement studio. The resort has two bocce courts. There are also several fitness classes on schedule. Aside from its sporting and nature-focused activities, the Conservancy also supports the arts. This year, the Conservancy will present several events, including the “Field + Fire” weekend. This event takes place on February 1-3 and features a series of speakers, food prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and nature conservation discussions.
