How to Make a Cherry Pie
After you have prepared your ingredients and prepared the pie crust, it is time to make the cherry pie filling. After you have prepared the filling you can put it in the pie pan. Next, transfer the filling to your pie crust using a slotted spoon. Make sure the filling has been well mixed. Then, sprinkle the top crust with coarse sugar, if desired.
Make sure to chill the dough before you bake your cherry pie. If you plan on using sour cherries, you’ll want to add more sugar to the filling. Also, chill the dough for at least half an hour before baking it. This will help prevent the bottom of the pie from getting soggy.
When your oven is preheated, place a large baking sheet in the oven. Lay the cherry filling in the pie plate and then place the strips of pie dough, horizontally over the filling. Next, lift up one strip and place a horizontal strip on top of the previous one. Continue the process with all remaining dough strips.
Use your favorite pie recipe to make cherry pie. Divide the dough in half and roll it out into an 8 to 9-inch pie pan. Make sure to let the dough cool completely before adding the cherries. After the pie has cooled, butter the crust lightly, flute the edges, and sprinkle sugar on top. Bake the pie in the oven for about 50 minutes.
Cherry pie crust can be made from either a store-bought or homemade recipe. Just make sure to use a floured surface when rolling out the dough. The crust is easy to make and only takes about 30 seconds. The filling is simple to prepare and only requires one bowl. If you can’t find sour cherries, try bing cherries.
You can make a lattice crust from a store-bought crust. To make the lattice top crust, roll the dough on a lightly floured surface. Then, transfer one pie crust to the pie plate and gently press it in place, making sure not to leave any gaps. After putting the lattice topping on the pie, you can crimp the strips with your fingers or a fork.
Once you’ve gathered all of your ingredients and prepared the crust, you can begin preparing the filling. To make the filling, whisk sugar and cornstarch together in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the cherries and spices. Stir to combine everything. Stir the mixture for eight to ten minutes, or until the cherries are softened and the mixture thickens. Once the filling is ready, you can place it in the pie crust and bake it at 375 degrees F.
Once the cherries have cooled, you can mix in 1/2 cup of lemon juice and almond extract. Once the filling is cool, place the filling inside the crust and seal the edges with butter.
