George Hartwick has served on the Dauphin County Board of Commissioners since 2014, with primary responsibility for Human Services Department, Tax Assessment Office, Human Resources divisions for Children & Youth services as well as Juvenile Probation services at Area Agency on Aging. In this capacity he also leads other important initiatives within Dauphin County government.

His dedication to local government has earned him numerous awards and honors, such as the 2014 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence and Dauphin County Democratic Committee Chairman’s Award in 2014.

He is also the co-founder of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) Institute for Local History and Family Research, which assists students in discovering their ancestry by connecting them to people in the community. Furthermore, USCT Institute provides internships to students from within and has created various programs celebrating black history within both college campuses and local communities.

Hartwick College was also one of the founding members of the Association of Students of Hartwick College (ASHC). In 2002, President Emeritus Richard Detweiler retired and in 2008 Dr. Margaret Drugovich became Hartwick’s first female president – becoming its ninth overall.

Drugovich spent her tenure at the College focusing on long-term financial planning, campus improvement projects and community building. Furthermore, she capitalized on the College’s academic strengths by adopting a curriculum that emphasizes experiential learning.
