He enlisted in the United States Navy as a radioman in September 1958 and deployed to Vietnam with SEAL Team Two for six months beginning January 1967. For his actions, he was awarded both the Silver Star and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
In 1973, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and appointed as Naval Attache to Cambodia. After serving there for 18 months, he returned stateside where he later led SEAL Team Two from 1974 until 1976.
Today, he is a singer-musician in Scranton. He has performed with Maynard Ferguson, Joe Henderson, Clark Terry and Paquito D’Rivera; in addition to teaching vocal and guitar lessons. Additionally, he founded both Marko Marcinko Jazz Quartet and Latin Jazz Quintet which play regional as well as international gigs.
