George Mayer was born in Gyor, Hungary and studied art at Vienna and Munich before emigrating to England in 1938. There he became a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool College of Art.

He was named to the inaugural All-Western New York Boys Basketball team in 1959 and his values of sportsmanship, humility and teamwork have remained with him ever since. Personal Life
George Mayer was an internationally-renowned painter and mosaicist who worked in oil, watercolour and graphics. During the First and Second World Wars, his artistic talent earned him the opportunity to emigrate to England.
On August 8th 1960 in Liverpool, England, he passed away. His mosaic work includes Pentecost which now adorns the Chapel of Unity at Christ the King Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool.
He designed an array of murals. Tragically, his home/studio in St John’s Wood, London was bombed during the Blitz and much of his artwork was destroyed; however, he was determined to rebuild it.
