How to Keep Your Cat Happy and Healthy on Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that celebrates all things spooky and creepy, but it can also be an anxious time for your cat. Fortunately, there are ways you can help your feline pal feel secure and at ease during this fun celebration.

Give Your Kitty a Secure Room

If your pet isn’t fond of trick-or-treating, consider moving the activities outdoors or setting up an area for her to hide from all the scary sights and sounds. You can do this by creating a peaceful area with comfortable furniture and her favorite toys. Not only will this increase her comfort level during holidays, but it may also reduce stress levels and anxiety!

Avoid Toxicity-Prone Foods and Treats

Halloween candy is often the cause of pet anxiety, including chocolate. Unfortunately, chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine which can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity and heart arrhythmias in dogs; similarly it contains low levels of an enzyme needed for cats’ digestion of lactose. So it’s best to stay away from these treats if possible!

Similar to alcohol, beverages like pumpkin ale or spiked punch may be appealing for your dog and contain ethanol that depresses their central nervous system and increases acid in their blood. This could lead to various issues like seizures or coma in some dogs.

On Halloween, your pet should avoid paper wrappers. Not only are these choking hazards but can cause intestinal blockages as well. To prevent your cat from ingestion of these treats, store all Halloween candy in an secure location and discard any paper wrappers properly.

Create a Snack Bowl for Your Halloween Party

If you are hosting a trick-or-treating party, why not serve up some pet-friendly treats instead of candy? Fill a festive bowl with bully sticks, dog chews and vegetable treats that guests’ pets can share.

Serve Your Guests in Eye-Catching Containers

Are you serving food at your trick-or-treating party or other Halloween festivities, why not set up a show-stopping display. Johanna Parker Designs has some festive snack bowls that are sure to be the talk of your guests!

These bowls come in an array of sizes and shapes, allowing you to customize your display. Some are shaped like jack-o’-lanterns, witches or other spooky creatures with various colors available to match any decor.

Alternatively, select a bowl made of heavy-duty material like ceramic or stoneware. This type of bowl will be more resistant to feline paws and less likely to crack or shatter.

These types of bowls are also easy to clean, so you won’t have to worry about stains or odors. Plus, they make perfect serving bowls of water to your guests as well!

These bowls are durable and designed to withstand a lot of abuse from pets. Dishwasher-safe, they can also be cleaned using mild soap and warm water.
