Jack and Jodi Klunder are committed to being active members of their McBain community, teaching in local high school classes as well as running Young Life activities there.
Young Life has seen tremendous benefits from their contributions, both in time and money, which have had an enormous effect on students’ lives.
Early Life and Education
Jack Klunder attended Hopkins Community Reformed Church, serving as boys’ basketball coach for two years and as well serving on its Church History and Christian Action Commission of the Reformed Church in America.
He held various management roles at both the Los Angeles Times and LANG, including executive vice president of circulation. His contributions helped transform newspaper publishing into multi-platform content delivery systems.
He will work to maintain the Woodland Hills-based Daily News’ strong local coverage by drawing upon his 34 years in newspaper management, distribution, advertising and operations. He will report directly to incoming Times Editor in Chief Dave Murphy; while Mary (Hope Class of 1974) lives nearby Torrance with him and their daughter.
Professional Career
Klunder is widely recognized for his oil and acrylic paintings, but also holds an extensive collection of watercolours. His intimate pieces showcase vivid pigments in soft pools of colour within hard shapes – creating expressionistic environments. Lethbridge # 2 from 1998 features an expansive blue outline floating among ochre, red, and mossy passages; inviting personal interpretation. Having been created over two decades ago yet remaining relevant today!
LANG has assigned him with leading them toward a digitally focused model for content distribution and advertising, rather than the traditional newsprint format. He will oversee three metro newspapers as well as associated weeklylies (Los Angeles Daily News, Torrance Daily Breeze and Long Beach Press-Telegram) along with reporting directly to incoming Times Executive Vice President and General Manager David P. Murphy.
Achievement and Honors
Rear Admiral Jack Klunder served the Navy for over 30 years until retiring in 2002, contributing to projects such as radar side lobe cancellation, Hawkeye NIFCA-CA and high speed processing. Additionally, he helped pioneer adaptive wave form technology used by all Navy aircraft today.
He serves as the President of Los Angeles Newspaper Group, comprised of the Daily News, Daily Breeze and Long Beach Press-Telegram newspapers. He reports to David P. Murphy – the incoming Times Executive Vice President and General Manager.

Personal Life
Personal Life for Klunder involves his marriage and three children with Jodi R. Klunder; surfing and snowboarding are among his hobbies; in addition, he is active within both church and youth group communities.
Not often can car theft stories end happily, but this one did. Los Angeles Daily News President and Publisher Jack Klunder had his beloved black-and-red 1966 Mustang returned after thirty-five years.
