Early Life and Education
Jack Klunder attended Hopkins Community Reformed Church, serving as boys’ basketball coach for two years and as well serving on its Church History and Christian Action Commission of the Reformed Church in America.
He held various management roles at both the Los Angeles Times and LANG, including executive vice president of circulation. His contributions helped transform newspaper publishing into multi-platform content delivery systems.
He will work to maintain the Woodland Hills-based Daily News’ strong local coverage by drawing upon his 34 years in newspaper management, distribution, advertising and operations. He will report directly to incoming Times Editor in Chief Dave Murphy; while Mary (Hope Class of 1974) lives nearby Torrance with him and their daughter.
Klunder is widely recognized for his oil and acrylic paintings, but also holds an extensive collection of watercolours. His intimate pieces showcase vivid pigments in soft pools of colour within hard shapes – creating expressionistic environments. Lethbridge # 2 from 1998 features an expansive blue outline floating among ochre, red, and mossy passages; inviting personal interpretation. Having been created over two decades ago yet remaining relevant today!
LANG has assigned him with leading them toward a digitally focused model for content distribution and advertising, rather than the traditional newsprint format. He will oversee three metro newspapers as well as associated weeklylies (Los Angeles Daily News, Torrance Daily Breeze and Long Beach Press-Telegram) along with reporting directly to incoming Times Executive Vice President and General Manager David P. Murphy.

Harold’s watercolours on handmade paper are saturated with vibrant pigments that evoke both Marc Chagall’s palette and Joan Miro’s line quality. His Lethbridge #6 watercolour features soft pools surrounded by hard lines to evoke an aesthetic that is both sensual and serene.
