Javors Lucas Lake in Macon, Georgia, is Home to Crappie, Shellcracker, and Catfish

Lucas served on the Water authority for more than 30 years as District two board member and an MWA Commissioner, until his passing in 2014. On March 4, this location will host the 2023 MWA Kids Fishing Derby.

Early Life and Education

Lucas attended the University of Southern California Film School after his service as an officer in the military, producing several critically-acclaimed student films like Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB which won first prize at the National Student Film Festival of 1967. Later on he earned a scholarship to observe Finian’s Rainbow being made at Warner Brothers where Francis Ford Coppola took him under his wing as his assistant director.

Lucas first established American Zoetrope, producing his full-length feature THX 1138 in 1971. American Graffiti quickly followed suit and broke box office records and garnered multiple awards before Star Wars made its debut two years later; revolutionizing both technology and storytelling simultaneously.

Professional Career

Lucas was an impressive center in Ohio high school basketball for two seasons, leading his teams to a combined record of 76 victories with zero losses. Lucas gained national attention when his teams beat California in the 1960 NCAA final and became the first player ever to score 30 points and grab 30 rebounds simultaneously in one tournament game.

Lucas joined the New York Knicks under NBA All-Stars Willis Reed and Dave DeBusschere. Although Lucas initially primarily served as a rebounding contributor, his scoring abilities soon led to an NBA championship win in 1971-72.

After his NBA career concluded, he went on to work at Robins Air Force Base before founding his own painting business in Macon. Additionally, he served on the Macon Water Authority board for 25 years; serving as chairman for some time; his name has also been honored in Macon by having Town Creek Reservoir named in his honor.

Personal Life

Javors Lucas was an active Christian who served his community through various civic and service organizations such as the American Legion, Macon NAACP and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Additionally he held board membership on Macon Water Authority from 1982 until his passing at age 96. Born and educated in Macon he graduated from Ballard Normal School before attending Tuskegee University; during World War II served with Robin Air Force Base before forming his own business painting cargo containers and signs before founding another one that earned him recognition with Macon Water Authority when they named Town Creek reservoir after him in 2006. Lucas leaves behind his wife and two children he will miss him greatly
