Early Life and Education
In the early years of his life, john arabia developed a keen interest in learning about the Arab world. He went on to study archaeology and history, but in 1916 he volunteered for the British Army and became involved with the Arab Revolt during the Great War, supporting the revolt against the Ottoman Empire. He served as a liaison officer and intelligence officer in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Arabia. He worked closely with Emir Faisal and participated, sometimes as a leader, in the fighting against Ottoman forces in 1918-1919. After the war, Lawrence remained an enlisted man, working in the Royal Air Force and the Tank Corps until 1935.
