Arrastia has been an advocate and leader in the legal community’s diversity initiatives, holding leadership roles within both state and national bar organizations.

He served as vice president of external affairs for the Hispanic National Bar Association and President of Region XIII, comprising Florida. Furthermore, he was a fellow of Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity–an organization dedicated to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession.

Early Life and Education

John Arrastia’s early life was not always smooth. He was raised in Braintree, Massachusetts and attended multiple schools before embarking on his educational career.

He had little patience for schoolwork, yet his father wanted him to become a minister. So they placed him in a private school led by Joseph Marsh who encouraged him to study harder.

John Marsh had a profound effect on him. With Marsh’s guidance, he worked hard and earned acceptance into Harvard College in 1751; with that degree under his belt, John went on to become an influential educator and advocate.

Professional Career

John Arastia is an exceptional first chair trial attorney and counselor who represents clients in complex litigation and arbitrations. His diverse practice encompasses all manner of commercial and insurance disputes in both state and federal courts.

He is an acknowledged expert in business law, having served as Special Litigation Counsel to the Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Title III Debtors during Puerto Rico bankruptcy proceedings. For his outstanding legal work and leadership within the legal community, he has earned him recognition from Super Lawyers “Rising Star”, America’s Top 100 Lawyers list and recognition as a premier authority on litigation and commercial arbitration.

Additionally, John has been recognized by publications for his advocacy for diversity within the profession by being active with Hispanic National Bar Association.

His research interests span across Traumatic brain injury, Internal medicine, Pathology and Biomarkers. Additionally, he is renowned for his groundbreaking study on Alzheimer’s disease that integrates elements such as diffuse axonal injury, White matter, Magnetic resonance imaging and Prospective cohort study.

Personal Life

John Arrastia is an experienced lawyer with over twenty-five years of experience representing clients in complex commercial, business and financial disputes before federal and state courts and arbitrations. He has represented Fortune 500 companies, fiduciaries, government and quasi-governmental entities as well as privately held businesses and individuals from a range of industries. A frequent speaker on business litigation topics, he has published in publications such as Florida Bar Journal’s Bankruptcy Litigation Manual and other journals.

In addition to his professional career, he is an active participant in New York’s literary community. He has participated in workshops at places such as Frederick Douglas Creative Arts Center, Cave Canum and The Writer’s Room and has taught writing to both incarcerated men and women through the New York Writers Coalition.
