He believed that Spirit-filled Christians should have the same type of ministry Jesus did while living on earth, and that this could only be achieved by a revelation of God’s fullness.
Early Life and Education
Lake was born in Ontario, Canada and moved to Michigan with his parents at a young age. He grew up in an extremely large family of 16 children. Eight of his siblings died, and he was surrounded by sickness, grief, and death from an early age.
Despite this, when he was 16 years old he became a Christian and began studying divine healing under John Alexander Dowie. After 7 years of training he and his wife, Jennie, moved to South Africa to minister and begin churches.
Over the course of 5 years in South Africa, Lake saw over one million converts and established hundreds of churches. He was also a key player in the formation of two large Pentecostal church movements that continue to flourish today.
Professional Career
john lakes is an accomplished musician who has a broad range of musical experience. He has toured with rock bands, studied jazz, played with Iowa City’s top bands, and studied music theory at the University of Iowa.
In addition to his career as a professional musician, he has taught guitar for over twelve years, offering lessons to students of all skill levels. He tailors his lessons to the student’s specific needs and goals.
He has been a partner with Sportime since 2020, and serves as Director of Camp Tennis at SPORTIME Amagansett and SPORTIME Lake Isle. He also serves as a coach and mentor to young players.

After attending a church in Michigan, he became convicted of his sin and invited Jesus to be Lord over his life. He studied to become a Methodist minister and sought sanctification passionately.
While on a mission to Africa, Lake’s wife Jennie suddenly died of malnutrition and exhaustion. Her death made a deep impression on Lake.
As a result, he was influenced by John Alexander Dowie’s healing ministry. He also drew inspiration from Charles Parham, who was cured of rheumatism by faith alone as a young man.
