John Maughan is a successful businessman and former manager of the Mayo football team. Additionally, he served in the Irish Army.
On January 27, 2022 at 63 years of age, he passed away. Survived by his wife and two sons, he was predeceased by his parents and sister.
Early Life and Education
John Maughn’s early life and education were marked by poverty and its attendant difficulties. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended LaSalle University to earn a bachelor’s degree in European History.
He continued his studies abroad at Wadham College, University of Oxford. Additionally, he spent seven years teaching Social Studies in the School District of Philadelphia.
He has experience working in both school and non-school settings with urban under-resourced youth and families, which formed the basis of his worldview and research interests. Through constructivist epistemology and grounded and embodied cognition theory frameworks, he has explored how preteens, adolescents and young adults attempt to make sense of their environment.

John Maughn has over three decades of professional experience as an IT professional. He currently works at Cape Clear Software, a company that offers integration solutions for businesses of all sizes.
Maughan has spent his time at Cape Clear leading the development of new products for customers and acting as director of engineering for the company.
He has extensive experience in the green growth industry, currently serving as acting coordinator of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) Secretariat. In this role, he coordinates and leads several GGKP programmes, operations and partnerships while acting as primary focal point for several collaborative expert groups on major GGKP themes. His areas of specialization include natural capital management, trade & competitiveness economics metrics & indicators behavioral economics sustainable infrastructure building.

John Maughn has earned a place of honor in the sports media space for some time now. In 2015 he was appointed head of communications for Indiana State University and became their first Athletics Vice President; overseeing all media and communication efforts on campus for over 70 sports including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball and football. Furthermore, John was responsible for developing relationships with local, national, television, radio stations as well as print publications.
He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife Kathy, their dogs and cat. As an avid reader of books and the news, he took pride in being the star of his troop at Blessed Sacrament Church. Additionally, he held strong beliefs in God and the power of prayer.

John Maughn is an Irish sportsman who has had a storied career in the game of rugby. He played for and coached the Irish team to several major tournament victories during his time with them.
His passion for Gaelic football began while in primary school and continued throughout college. Thankfully, his teachers encouraged him to pursue it seriously and provided him with intense training and competition opportunities.
He was raised in a community with a strong sense of family and admiration for the game, providing him with an invaluable foundation in this sport.
