A gospel music pioneer, Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark-Terrell is a musician, composer and evangelist. She is the co-founder and musical director of The Clark Sisters, and also has a solo career. Her first album was titled Glory Belongs to God, which was released in 1979. Other albums include Comin’ Home, Live in Charlotte, and Masterpiece. In addition, she has produced several other albums and choirs.
Twinkie Clark was born in 1954. As a child, she learned to play piano, and was given a formal musical education at Howard University in Washington, D.C. During her formative years, she participated in a youth choir. She was the personal organist of her mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, for several years. Afterwards, she began to teach music under her mother’s direction. Eventually, she left the Clark Sisters and launched a solo career.
Since her career in gospel music began, she has earned a lot of good fortune. In fact, she is one of the highest-paid gospel singers in the world. Besides making money from her music career, she makes money from merchandise sales, motivational speaking, and books.
In addition to her work as a singer, Clark has been honored for her contributions to the contemporary gospel music industry. For her work, she received an honorary doctorate of sacred music from Christian Bible Institute and Seminary, and was recognized as a living legend by the International Music Department of the Church of God in Christ. Additionally, she has won several awards, including two Grammy Awards. In addition, she has been inducted into the Hammond Organ Hall of Fame.
While Clark has been able to amass a large sum of money from her music career, she also focuses on her family and health. She has suffered from weight issues since her early years, and has visited doctors numerous times to prevent her from getting fat. Nevertheless, she has had stomach surgery several times to ensure that she remains healthy. Nevertheless, her weight problems have not affected her career.
Although Twinkie is known for her exceptional talent as a gospel singer, she is still very private about her life. She has never publicly shared details of her past marriage. Likewise, she has never shared information about her son. But reports indicate that she and her ex-husband, John Terrell, have a child together.
Although Twinkie’s husband has not been identified, it is reported that he is currently in prison. Despite this, it is safe to assume that she has a stable and happy life with her son. If she were to divorce her husband, however, it would be difficult to trace the exact reason for this.
Among her many accolades, she was awarded the International Music Department Award from the Church of God in Christ, and was a nominee for a Dove Award. She was also a part of the COGIC International Choir’s LEANING ON JESUS album. Also, she featured in the song “Accept What God Allows” with Richard “Mr Clean” White.
