John Thibeau

John Thiebaud is an American artist renowned for his paintings of cakes and pies. These works draw from his imagination as well as memories of bakeries and diners that shaped him growing up in Pennsylvania.

He studied commercial art at Long Beach Polytechnic High School (1939) and Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles (now LA Trade-Technical College). During World War II, he served as cartoonist for the First Motion Picture Unit of the United States Army Air Forces.

Early Life and Education

John Thibeau was born on January 27, 1960 in Skandia and raised as a loving husband and father. His love of laughter had no boundaries; his friendships knew no bounds.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen Narhi; sisters Lorrie (Chuck) Klessig and Sherrie Thibeau; parents-in-law Sheldon and Eda Narhi; nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.

Professional Career

John has achieved fame as a singer-actor in opera and musical theatre. He has performed at major opera houses across North America as well as Francesca Zambello’s productions at Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and San Francisco Opera.

He has also performed in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Additionally, he has sang throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

John had experienced severe abuse as a child, and this trauma would shape the rest of his life. As an adult, John craved structure and purpose in order to feel fulfilled.

Achievements and Honors

John Thibault is an award-winning entrepreneur and veteran of the US military. An expert in telecommunications, he was one of the founding members of SkyMax Network – a 5G wireless communications engineering company with offices in Baltimore and Nairobi.

He was an active Roman Catholic, lifelong parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-St. Louis Parish in Swanton and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus member at St. Edmund of Canterbury Assembly 2207 also in Swanton.

He was an ardent family man, content to spend time with his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren. When not at home, he enjoyed exploring nature – fishing, boating and camping being some of his favorite pastimes.

Personal Life

John Thibeau served in the Allied Forces during World War II. He and his wife Carolyn served together throughout various locations such as Germany and France.

He was a loving husband and father, always prioritizing his family. He was immensely proud of his four children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was a joyful, caring individual who never stopped smiling. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Jack and Mike; sister Michelle Elwell and her husband Bill; numerous great-grandchildren as well as nephews and nieces; all predeceased by parents and brother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the AARP Foundation in his memory.
