John Thievon – President of Dey Pharma
John Thievon is President of Dey Pharma, a fully integrated specialty pharmaceutical business. With more than two decades of professional expertise in strategic product launches, marketing, commercialization, sales penetration and distribution leadership under his belt, he brings with him an unmatched level of expertise.
He previously served as President and CEO of Middlebrook Pharmaceuticals, where he helped grow the company from 18-person start-up to 450 employees before it was sold to Victory Pharma. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations at Adams Respiratory Therapeutics for nine years.
Early Life and Education
John Thievon was born in Newark, NJ and attended Queen of Peace High School before relocating to North Arlington. In 1967 he made the move to Toms River where he eventually joined the Dover Township Police Department, where he would spend the remainder of his career.
He was an exemplary individual, known for his enthusiasm and commitment to family, colleagues and community. As proud father of Lori Thievon Wright and Daniel Levine; Paul and Amy Thievon; Liz Thievon and Jeff Orth; as well as being a Masonic lodge member himself, his devotion was deep-seated. Additionally, he enjoyed playing many different sports throughout the years while appreciating music and dancing fervently.
Professional Career
John Thievon has extensive experience in product launches, marketing, commercialization, sales penetration and distribution management. After earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Pace University in New York City, he worked as a management trainee and pharmaceutical sales representative for Ortho Pharmaceuticals before joining IMS Health as executive vice president of commercial operations for nine years.
He currently serves as president of Dey Pharma, L.P., a fully integrated specialty pharmaceutical business. Prior to that he served as president and CEO of MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals where he built it into a 450-person organization before its assets were acquired by Victory Pharma. When he terminated his employment with MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals on March 15th 2010 he received an immediate cash severance payment of $993,496, based on its present value at that time, of $993,496 due to him upon termination from employment there. All executives have employment agreements with the Company which detail their compensation packages as well as provide for severance benefits in connection with terminations from employment.
Achievements and Honors
John A. Thievon (Badge 87), a Toms River native and longtime police detective for Dover Township, passed away March 7, 2022 at age 81. A kindhearted soul with an infectious sense of humor, Thievon was also a loving husband and father who took great joy in being part of his children’s lives. His legacy will live on through those whom he touched; thanks to all those who shared in it with us!
One of his proudest accomplishments was launching the PULSYS(R) Moxatag tablet at exactly the right time and place, by assembling an experienced team that included marketing specialists, scientists and business executives with a track record for delivering high-quality products to market. Other notable feats include his leadership abilities both inside the classroom and in his community – such as serving as president of Toms River Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Personal Life
Thievon, a retired detective from North Arlington, was born in Newark and raised nearby. After graduating Queen of Peace High School, he entered law enforcement, spending 42 years working with Dover Township Police Department primarily patrolling Plains and Ortley areas.
In addition to his professional life, Thievon enjoyed sports and spending time with family and friends – especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by both of his parents and an older brother; however he is survived by his wife Kareen Lee (Drew) Thievon, daughter Doreen Sumner and her husband Robert, son John and his wife Kathleen, sister-in-law Mary Lou McTeigue-Purcell, numerous nieces and nephews as well. Additionally he is a member of Raritan Valley Country Club as well as being an avid New York Yankees fan.
