John Walke is the clean air director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). He has led NRDC’s national clean-air advocacy before Congress, in the courts, and at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
He is a former EPA attorney and has fought against air pollution since 2000. He also helps lead NRDC’s work in the climate change arena.
Early Life and Education
John Walker was born in Halifax, England. He was raised in a rural environment and went to Rastrick Grammar School where he specialized in physical science and mathematics in his final three years. He then attended St Catherine’s College, Oxford where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry.
He later started a business in Oklahoma that specializes in processing and packaging meats. The business grew and he expanded the plant three times.
His work is in the collection of major museums around the world. His paintings and sculptures focus on issues of racial inequality. In his art, he makes audacious, challenging statements that demand we examine the origins of racial inequality.
Professional Career
John Walker had a successful professional football career. Born in Leith, he made his debut with the Leith Athletic team in March 1898, and scored his first goal in an East of Scotland League match two weeks later.
He moved to Heart of Midlothian in October 1898 and then to Lincoln City. During his time at both clubs, Walker scored in a few games, but he never really carved out a reputation as an outstanding player.
After the Avengers’ western division shut down, Walker quit and tossed his costume and shield into the Hudson River. Scarlet Witch subsequently recruited him into Force Works, a new Californian super-team funded by Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man.

Walke has received numerous awards for his outstanding work in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. He is co-winner of the Royal Society’s Copley Medal, the highest honor of the British scientific community.
Walker also won the prestigious Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research into peptide antibiotics, which helped to improve the treatment of infectious diseases. He served as the director of the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) since 2000 and is now based in Washington, D.C.
The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers an annual award program to recognize the achievements of members in research and scholarship, teaching, education, service to the discipline, public service outside academe and for lifetime achievement.
