Early Life and Education

A child’s early life is a critical period in their development. This is the period of their life where they experience rapid brain development and learn many important social-emotional and cognitive skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

It is also during this time that they develop their sense of self-worth, confidence and positive self-belief. This emotional foundation is the basis for learning the complex social and academic challenges they will encounter in their later years.

This is why UNESCO considers early childhood care and education to be one of the most important investments in a country’s development. It is a foundation for promoting gender equality, social cohesion and holistic development. Moreover, it is a critical step in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and is a social determinant of health.
