Kings Dominion is one of the best amusement parks in the country. Located in Doswell, Virginia, the park is owned by Cedar Fair and offers five sections of rides, restaurants and more. They include Planet Snoopy (the childrens park), International Street, Old Virginia, Candy Apple Grove and Safari Village.
Log Flume
A staple for many amusement parks, a log flume is a water ride that transports riders through a long trough filled with logs. This type of ride has been around for many years and is now considered a classic attraction.
Before becoming a popular amusement ride, log flumes were actually used to transport wood in the lumber industry. Originally they were square chutes that were prone to jams and required constant maintenance. However, in 1868, James W. Haines popularized a new type of flume that had a “V” shaped channel that allowed a log to free itself as the rising water level pushed it up.
The new type of flume helped cut down on costs for lumber companies because they didn’t need to construct roads for horse-drawn wagons. But a drawback was that the new system also opened up areas of the forests for clearcutting, destroying a large percentage of the trees in the area.
In addition to being a fun water ride, a log flume can be a very interesting and educational experience. Taking you back in time to the days when logs were used as transportation, this is a great way to learn about the history of these rides and how they’ve become a favorite amusement park attraction.
Unlike many amusement rides, the Log Flume has changed over the years. In the beginning it was completely isolated in a wooded area, but the addition of Rattlesnake Rapids in 1997 and nearby picnic areas in 2000 have given the area a much more open feel.
It’s a good idea to be prepared for a lot of water on this ride, so make sure you bring a change of clothing. It is also recommended to be able to stand up for a full minute while you are riding, as the track is quite steep.
Another great feature of the log flume is that you are able to take your own photos while on the ride. This is a great way to remember your trip to the park, as well as a good chance to get some cool pictures with friends and family.
The kings dominion log flume is an excellent ride for guests of all ages. It is very serviceable and has an impressive drop section and splashdown.
While the kings dominion log flume may not be the most thrilling log flume you can find, it is still a nice ride to check out. The minimum height to ride is 36 inches and the ride has a decent drop and splashdown section, but be prepared to get very wet!
In addition to the log flume, the kings dominion park has a number of roller coasters. The park’s newest roller coaster is called Son of Beast, which opened in 2000. The park’s other roller coasters are Backlot Stunt Coaster, The Beast, and the Rugrats Runaway Reptar.
