Liam McGowan was an ardent family man. Proud of his Irish roots and dedicated to his wife, children, nieces and nephews alike, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand when needed – something his many acquaintances will surely miss him dearly. He will be deeply missed.

He earned four varsity letters at Mansfield High School and broke six school and club records while competing for Hockomock Area YMCA club team, competing at both regional and national levels.

At the 2021 election, he led WA Labor to one of its greatest victories since Federation, in terms of both vote share and proportion of seats controlled at state or territorial level. Opinion polls consistently gave him approval ratings above 80% during his premiership.
