Mark Lester stars as orphan Oliver Twist in this movie adaptation starring Ron Moody as Fagin (Ron Moody). After fleeing from his workhouse home and reaching London, Oliver joins Fagin’s criminal gang of pickpockets led by Fagin (Ron Moody). A kind gentleman named Mr. Brownlow takes pity on him and offers him shelter, but Bill Sikes from Fagin wants him back.

DeBessonet downplayed the film’s darker moments — such as Nancy’s murder — citing how Dickens and Bart had already written enough grimness into their story without needing extra gothic sets or lighting effects to emphasize them.
