A kind gentleman named Mr. Brownlow takes pity on him and offers him shelter, but Bill Sikes from Fagin wants him back.
DeBessonet downplayed the film’s darker moments — such as Nancy’s murder — citing how Dickens and Bart had already written enough grimness into their story without needing extra gothic sets or lighting effects to emphasize them.
