Hilton Oliver Witt – A Loved Father, Husband, Brother, and Grandfather

Hilton Oliver Witt of Coleman Texas went home to be with God peacefully on March 2, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. A talented individual with many gifts at his disposal, Hilton will leave behind two daughters and four grandchildren: Sara Boyce of Arkadelphia with husband Wes, Colby Witt from Palmer and Shawn Witt from Big Spring as well as numerous great grand children.

Early Life and Education

Oliver Witt was an invaluable partner and employer at his firm, treating it like an extension of his family. He delighted colleagues by planning the annual firm BBQ and selecting holiday gifts. Additionally, Oliver Witt was an ardent supporter of environmental causes serving on boards such as ecoAmerica and Environmental Media Association.

He wrote numerous scholarly articles, such as To Save the Country: A Lost Manuscript of the Civil War Constitution and Patriots and Cosmopolitans: Hidden Histories of American Law. Additionally, he served on three law reviews, Yale, Harvard University Law Review and Columbia Law Review. Private First Class Witt was left behind his wife Harris and two children when he went missing while serving with Marine Corps on October 2, 1952 in Korea.

Hilton Oliver Witt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son who was active in his Baptist Church community and passionately patriotic about his country. He enjoyed playing poker, traveling and spending time with his loved ones.

He is an author and frequent speaker on construction, real estate, insurance and association law issues. He has represented homeowners, builders, developers and associations in matters ranging from construction defect claims to multimillion-dollar differing site conditions disputes.

With extensive experience in retained executive search, Susan understands complex pharmaceutical, biotech and medical technology companies as well as their unique needs – such as clinical and commercial development in specialty pharma or drug/device combination therapies. Prior to joining WittKieffer she was a partner in one of New York’s prestigious firms.

Hilton Oliver Witt was an incredible example of genuine character who lived life with incredible gusto. His presence was always respected among his family, friends, colleagues, clients and in the Colorado real estate community; and was an uncompromising advocate for fairness and justice.

Witt was an outstanding student-athlete, earning All-Central Texas recognition at lineman position and twice winning the Noble Doss Scholarship, awarded to students with high academic achievements and leadership capabilities.

Witt was also honored to receive two Tiger Up, Out and About Advocacy and Community Engagement Awards; these recognize non-graduating students who have helped create equitable and inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ communities. In addition, he served on both McClain Center for Diversity and Tiger PRIDE Task Force committees.

Personal Life

Hilton Oliver Witt passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on March 2, 2020. He was an incredible father, husband, brother and son; as well as being hard working man that enjoyed cattle farming, oil field work, vintage cars and trucks as hobbies. Additionally he served his nation in WWII while serving with US Army. He was an active member of both the American Legion and VFW and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. He was very proud to call his family his own; spending time together was what mattered most. He is survived by his wife Doris Reynolds Witt, daughter Susan Witt Shamblin and husband Danny of Lynchburg, VA; son Thomas Witt and Sarah in Winchester; as well as seven grandchildren: Sara Boyce with Wes of Arkadelphia Arkansas, Michael Williamson with Magen of Early, Shawn Witt with wife Yvonne of Palmer, Cody Witt of Big Spring Texas and Army Sgt Steven Witt with Brandy from Fort Benning GA.
