Who is Santa Dan?
Saint Daniel was an influential figure in the church before Iconoclasm. He introduced religion into everyday life for people across all classes and regions.
While on the column, John performed numerous miracles including exorcisms and healings. Furthermore, God used him as an intermediary to reveal certain future events to mankind.
Early Life and Education
Daniel was raised in a Christian household, attending St. Jerome Catholic School and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory before going on to complete his education at Texas A&M University. Later he taught elementary school in Glendale, Arizona while also helping address systemic educational inequality through Teach for America and acting as volunteer and leader with the Society of Jesus in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Phoenix.
He attended Pilgrim Emmanuel Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee before applying to Austin Peay State University (which at that time was all-white). In 1949, he spearheaded its integration and ultimately earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees there. Later he became a member of DTASC (Drama Teacher Association Southern California) as well as serving as a judge at numerous high school and college theatre festivals throughout Southern California.
Santa Dan is available to bring the magic of Christmas to all types of events. He is known for making even skeptical children believe and is recognized for his authentic beard and welcoming smile. Additionally, he loves interacting with people of all ages – year round availability!
He is board-certified in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Primary Care Sports Medicine. In his teaching appointment at UT Health, he enjoys helping residents gain insight into his specialty area. In addition, he has served as oral boards examiner.
As an enthusiastic advocate of educational theatre, he has both judged and coached speech and debate tournaments for high school students in Southern California. Additionally, he has performed as Uncle Max in Sound of Music, the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz, Mr. Smee and Nana from Peter Pan and Daddy Warbucks from Annie – just to name a few roles!
Achievement and Honors
Daniel has participated in various theatre festivals in Southern California and coached speech and debate for many years. An advocate of educational theatre, Daniel has served as a judge at both high school and college theatre competitions.
Dr. McIver has also volunteered with youth programs and sits on the boards of both Santa Paula Community Library and First Christian Church. Additionally, he served on the District Attorney’s Family Justice Center Research Committee before chairing its Complete Count Committee for Santa Paula Census Complete Count Committees.

Furthermore, he was recognized as a Saint Rose Honors student with an average GPA above 2.75 while actively engaging with its mission and Benedictine values.
Kevin Herrera recalls him as an enthusiastic sports fan who wrote with great energy about Samohi games with equal fervor as their energy. As editor he had a keen eye for AP style (“it was like fingernails on chalkboard,” he once quipped) as well as taking amazing photographs – many with wide, emotive shots- that avoided becoming over-caffeinated news business fare. He avoided becoming one of those news industry titans that succumbs to bitter cynicism many others had become famously known for being. Kevin Herrera fondly recalls these fondly remembered by Herrera himself.
He is the author of Santa’s Husband, an amusing children’s book released in 2017. It depicts Santa as a gay man living with his partner in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, they live together as husband and wife. Mr. Smee and Nana from Peter Pan; Daddy Warbucks from Annie; and Owl from Winnie the Pooh have all featured him as stage actors in various productions of these classic musicals as well.
