Steve Hatch, MD, VP of Business Operations and Strategy at Facebook
Hatch has distinguished himself in the advertising industry, building world-renowned agencies with digital and data-driven planning expertise. As Facebook’s head of operations and strategy in Northern Europe, he oversees its fundamental evolution – such as video growth and monetisation of content.
On August 1, he will become YouGov’s chief executive, replacing Stephan Shakespeare who will assume chair duties.
Early Life and Education
Hatch, a physician by training, specialized in infectious disease and immunology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. During Liberia’s 2013-2014 Ebola epidemic, he volunteered his services and later published Snowball in a Blizzard: A Physician’s Notes on Uncertainty in Medicine as his book.
Hatch’s work as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee resulted in one of the longest legislative filibusters ever.
Hatch first demonstrated his commitment to protecting children when in 1992 he introduced a joint resolution seeking an amendment to the Constitution to safeguard unborn infants’ right to life, later passing as P.L. 97-292 into law. This marked the start of Hatch’s lifetime commitment to safeguarding kids.
Professional Career
Hatch was an outstanding right-handed pitcher in Akron Firestone Park area youth leagues and at Garfield High School. Additionally, he participated in Summit County Senior League.
Since then, he has launched his acting career with roles on daytime soaps like All My Children – where he appeared regularly as Philip Brent for two years – as well as guest starring roles on Cannon, Nakia and Hawaii Five-O – sharing screen space with TV icons like Jack Palance and Jason Robards.
In 2023, YouGov Research appointed him its new Chief Executive. He will assume his new post on 1 August and replace Stephan Shakespeare who becomes non-executive chair. Media Leader believes Derya Matras will also assume Meta’s vice-president role for Northern Europe – further expanding her current remit.

Steve Hatch brings over 30 years of experience leading high-growth marketing, media, and technology companies. In 2014 he became Facebook’s inaugural regional director for the UK and oversaw its fundamental transformation. Later that same year he became Meta’s Vice President for Northern Europe where he oversaw all business operations and strategy across Northern Europe including driving the introduction of its e-commerce products as well as insight tools for their target markets.
He led MEC, a WPP agency he managed, with an emphasis on inclusivity and talent development. Under his watchful eye, MEC doubled in size while winning numerous industry accolades such as IPA Effectiveness Agency of the Year award.

Personal Life
He married Abby, his high school sweetheart, in 2014 and together they have three children – two daughters and a son.
Ake instructed Hatch to go outside, turn his car around, and listen for any sounds – when no sounds were detected, he shot Reverend Douglass twice and Mrs. Douglass once before tying up their children and tossing them into the living room.
Hatch spoke out in 2019 against sexual abuse of Liberian children as well as Facebook’s political advertising policies during an interview with BBC media editor Amol Rajan, and currently serves as Vice President for Northern Europe (he will succeed Stephan Shakespeare as Non-Executive Chairman). Prior to that he held leadership roles at marketing and media firms like MEC and Mediaedge.
