Early Life and Education
Steve Plate has extensive experience investing both privately and publicly, with an emphasis on acquisitions. Currently he serves as President of Clean Plate Investment Firm which specializes in casual dining sector investments.
He is also an active member of Glen Ridge community, serving on both Town Council and various committees and forums. Furthermore, he chairs Pastoral Council at Sacred Heart Church Glen Ridge as chairperson and directs their approximately $2 Million Capital Program rehabilitating church, school, rectory, and convent facilities.
As Chief of Major Capital Projects with the Port Authority, Plate oversees complex transportation mega projects that are critical for New York and New Jersey. He led and completed delivery of AirTrain JFK within budget.
Professional Career
Prior to joining Clean Plate, Wood spent 13 years researching, analyzing and investing in discretionary consumer companies. He held roles such as partner and sector head on Alyeska Investment Group’s consumer team; also CFO for two private-equity sponsored Burger King franchisees as well as Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant Group from Chicago.
Steve Plate currently serves as the Deputy Chief and Director of Major Capital Projects for Port Authority, overseeing its most significant mega projects which total more than $65 billion, such as replacing its Bus Terminal, expanding PATH service to Newark Liberty International Airport, raising roadway navigation clearance clearance, replacing Bayonne Bridge Raiser Roadway Project etc. As such he oversees planning, financial strategies, processes, operations management as well as operational oversight for these endeavors.
Achievement and Honors
Plate has earned numerous awards for his contributions in both the public and private sectors. Most notably, in 2013 he was honored as a special friend of NJIT at their black tie gala benefit event “Celebration 2013.”
As a civil engineer by training, Plate is proud of his team’s efforts in rebuilding the World Trade Center site. He believes it honors tragic event while giving hope of unstoppable progress and resilience for future generations.
He’s particularly proud of One World Trade Center’s safety features. These include thick concrete walls surrounding its central core; thick elevator shaft walls protect them; extra-wide pressurized stairwells provide access for first responders; all these elements exceed standard building codes – earning the building LEED Gold certification in return.

As one of the fittest and most talented members of his team, Steve boasts a range of talents to assist him with his work. He excels at tracking across different terrains while possessing extensive weapon handling knowledge.
He currently serves as Chief of Major Capital Projects for Port Authority, overseeing complex transportation mega projects such as World Trade Center site redevelopment and delivery of the $2 billion JFK AirTrain transit system on time and within budget.
Even though Steve can sometimes seem distant to Danny, he still cares deeply for him and the rest of Hawaii Five-0. As is evident with Hana “A” Makehewa and Ke Kinohi he would risk his own life to save those he cares for – an attitude demonstrated through their rescue attempts.
