Early Life and Education

Through life’s journey he continued his education and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Austin Community College respectively. Additionally, Global University offered him an advanced master’s program.

Montemayor was also an integral member of St. John the Baptist Church and an avid volunteer there, acting as assistant facility coordinator and offering help when anything needed fixing or accomplishing.

As well as baseball coaching the Baystros 8U team in Baytown, he was known for being a kind, patient, and beloved coach by both parents and children of his team. Montemayor first had the ambition of becoming an international development expert when he was younger, studying political science and government at college before interning with the United Nations – however he quickly came to realize this path wasn’t the way forward to address the issues plaguing Latino/a workers in the workforce.

Instead, he decided to become an entrepreneur by founding his own tech company called Chamba – dedicated to helping Spanish speakers find work in the service industry.

Montemayor spent his free time coaching an eight-and-under baseball team in Baytown. Known for his patience and kindness with the children on his team, he was an active member of his community – coaching multiple relatives’ children during that time as well as other groups’. Montemayor leaves behind his parents, sister, grandmother, aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and great/great-nieces and nephews as his survivors.

Achievement and Honors

Steven Montemayor was a four-year letterwinner in baseball at Los Altos High School under coaches Sandy Wihtol and Donnie Ecker, helping lead his team to two league championships. He earned honorable mention status on 2013 Rawlings All-California team while 2012 Perfect Game Underclass team as well as having a perfect GPA and membership of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

On Saturday night, Montemayor was killed in an alleged drunk driving incident. His car was hit by a Toyota Tundra pulling out of a driveway, sending Montemayor and his female passenger flying through the air before colliding into another Toyota Tundra backing out – leading them both to become fatalities at the scene.

Personal Life

Steven Montemayor was a dedicated and loving father who passionately loved his family. With an open heart, he always gave generously. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and close friends who became family; was an avid Wisconsin sports fan as well as enjoying movies and TV shows.

He was also an avid baseball enthusiast, coaching Baystros 8U – an eight-and-under select baseball team in his hometown of Baytown – for several seasons before he died on Saturday after an apparent DUI collision along FM 1942.

Vickie was survived by her husband Esteban Montemayor and their daughters Rachael Montemayor and Melissa Montemayor as well as Dora Cruz with Santos Cruz as his widower, as well as many nieces and nephews.
