Steven Tenenbom – Violinist, Soloist, and Recitalist

Born and educated in Phoenix, Arizona, he studied under Max Mandel and Heidi Castleman of University of Southern California before enrolling at Curtis Institute of Music to work with Milton Thomas and Michael Tree. Additionally he serves on faculties at Mannes College The New School for Music Juilliard School Bard College Conservatory of Music as a member of Orion String Quartet Tashi OPUS ONE piano quartet; Mannes College The New School for Music The New School for Music as faculty, Bard College Conservatory of Music as a faculty member.

Early Life and Education

Steven Spielberg was born in Phoenix, Arizona and is one of the most successful and influential filmmakers in cinema history. Receiving numerous awards, Spielberg is credited for pioneering summer blockbusters like Jaws. Now living in Connecticut with wife Ida Kavafian and champion vizsla purebred dogs as companions, Spielberg remains at the top of his game as an artist and filmmaker.

Coleman Chamber Music Award recipient, he has made guest performances with the Guarneri and Emerson String Quartets, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson and Beaux Arts Trios and on the 92nd Street Y chamber series. Additionally, he has collaborated with composer Lukas Foss and jazz artist Chick Corea. Furthermore, he is a member of Orion String Quartet TASHI as well as piano quartet OPUS ONE; additionally serving on faculty at Curtis Institute of Music Juilliard School Bard College Conservatory of Music as well as New York Mannes College of Music.

Professional Career

Tenenbom was honored to receive the Coleman Chamber Music Award and was previously a member of Galimir Quartet, but since his departure he is active as a violist with Orion String Quartet, piano quartet Opus One, Curtis Institute of Music and Mannes College of Music faculties as well as recording for RCA, Arabesque Delos Marlboro Recording Society labels as well as playing on an extremely rare Gasparo da Salo viola from 1560!

Marcus Rose from Shreveport will take part in CMNW’s West Sound performance at West Sound with Heidi Castleman and Steven Tenenbom at The Juilliard School on full scholarship, performing Bartok’s Viola Concerto as well as Mahler’s First Symphony as well as other works.

Young artists perform as part of Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars program, designed to assist musicians transition from student status to professional status. This initiative is named in memory of Judy Evnin and funded by her family.

Achievement and Honors

Jordan Bak, currently studying viola with Steven Tenenbom at The Juilliard School, has garnered many accolades for her performances. She won the 2017 Presser Foundation Scholarship and regularly attended master classes taught by such luminaries as Hsin-Yun Huang, Kirsten Docter, Veit Hertenstein and Nobuko Imai.

Mr. Tenenbom has garnered much acclaim as a chamber musician, performing with the Orion String Quartet, the OPUS ONE piano quartet, TASHI and other ensembles. Additionally he serves as the coordinator of string chamber music at Curtis Institute of Music as well as teaching at Mannes College of Music, Queens College and Bard College Conservatory of Music.

As a native of Phoenix, he began studying piano with Max Mandel and Heidi Castleman, later moving on to study under Milton Thomas at USC as well as Michael Tree and Karen Tuttle from Curtis Institute. His extensive discography includes recordings on RCA Records with TASHI String Quartet as well as Arabesque Delos ECM Sony Classical labels.

Steven Tenenbom has developed an exceptional career as a chamber musician, soloist and recitalist. His credentials include working with composer Lukas Foss and jazz artist Chick Corea as well as touring across America and Japan with Utah Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Brandenburg Ensemble as well as performing at numerous music festivals including Mostly Mozart, Aspen Ravinia Chamber Music Northwest Colorado Bravo! Colorado.

At present, he serves as the violist in the Orion String Quartet at Mannes College The New School as Quartet-in-Residence; TASHI; and the piano quartet OPUS ONE. Additionally he teaches at Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard School, Bard College Conservatory of Music as well as being Coordinator for String Chamber Music at University of Vermont.
