Thomas Gavello

Thomas Gavello, a junior infielder from University of Pacific was selected by the San Francisco Giants in 2022 and currently plays in their minor league system.

Gavello may become an asset on both ends for the Giants. He exudes confidence at bat and has shown both average and power potential.

Professional Career

Thomas Gavello was selected in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants, and has excelled as a second baseman since being taken. He boasts an approach at bat with some power potential while possessing good eye at bat without depending on speed to reach base.

He was one of the top hitters in the WCC this season and finished among its top ten for home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, hits by pitch and homers by pitch. Although not overly toolsy or athletic in his play style, he excels as an effective defender who can play multiple positions.

Gavello currently plays with the Eugene Emeralds of the California League and will soon join their Single-A affiliate in San Francisco.

Achievement and Honors

Thomas Gavello has made strides forward since being selected in the 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants Minor League system. Drafted as an Eugene Emerald of the California League player during that year’s MLB Draft and currently playing against Lake Elsinore Storm for Eugene Emeralds; recently earned California League Player of Week honors against them and leading them in home runs, doubles, RBI, batting average and OPS respectively.

Personal Life

Thomas Gavello is married to Peggy and they share two children. The family lives together in San Jose, California.

Gavello has made an immediate impactful statement at San Jose Giants since being selected in the 13th round of MLB first-year player draft in 2022. Since his selection, he has hit for both average and power while drawing lots of walks – becoming a key member in helping lead them in the current North Division race. As recognition, he was named California League Player of the Week for week ending July 29.
